Protea SVG 500 (19”) Petrol Scarifier
Used on smaller golf greens, bowling greens and cricket pitches. This machine is extremely popular for cricket pitches and bowling greens when used in conjunction with a scarifying reel when it is time to carry out spring treatment.
Runs on high quality rubber wheels with bearings. No grass box. Can be fitted with optional Verticut/Scarifier/Groomer or Pin-type Scarifier Reels. All Reel options can be purchased separately. 4 adjustable front and rear wheels for height adjustment
SVG500 Verticutter Reel
The Verticutter blade is a thin, straight, rectangular blade. It is made out of hardened spring steel. Deep Verticutting is normally required when the ground is compacted, and the ground needs to be aerated. Prior to Verticutting the ground should be watered to make the ground soft. You can Verticut up to a depth of 25-30mm. This is below the root level of grass.
By Verticutting you can aerate the green, then fertilize and irrigate it. Nutrients can now penetrate down to root level and rejuvenate the green. Before this, due to compaction, water and nutrients possibly could not penetrate the ground. Verticutting will not only loosen the ground, but also bring up dead roots and thatch, encouraging further growth.

SVG500 Groomer Reel
The function of a Grooming Reel is to remove thatch in the upper layers of the grass and improve its condition. As a result, bowling greens, putting greens and cricket pitches will become faster. However, the groomer is not designed to be used as a Verticutter by digging deeper into the ground (see Verticutting).
Grooming can be done mid-season without any disturbance on a well cut, looked after lawn without great disrupting the surface.

SVG500 Blade-Type Scarifying Reel
The Scarifier blades are almost identical to the Verticut blades but the ends are offset or bent.
A typical Scarifying application is the spring treatment of bowling greens and cricket pitches at the beginning of the season. The upper layer of thatch needs to be totally removed in preparation for the laying of new green.
Scarifying is necessary not only on greens but on any lawn where there has been constant build-up of thatch, which will make the grounds spongy. With certain grass types, the thatch can build up and become so strong, that it becomes impossible to maintain a constant height of cut with your lawnmower.

SVG500 Pin-Type Scarifying Reel
The Pin-Type Scarifier Reel is very similar to the BladeType Scarfying Reel, it is however much more effective. Featuring between 138 hardened concrete nails instead of 18 hardened spring steel blades, the Pin-Type Scarifying Reel will be able to totally & aggressively remove the turf on any playing surface significantly more efficiently.
